Apps ready to rumble again on Sunshine Coast

Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Origin captain Kezie Apps is relishing the challenge of returning to Sunshine Coast Stadium for a rematch on 25 June after her side’s heartbreaking loss last year.

The NSW Women’s Origin team held the Shield from 2018-19 but lost to Queensland 24-18 on the Sunshine Coast at the end of last season.

It was the first time a Women’s Origin match had been played at the venue and it was also the first time the NSW Women’s team had lost an interstate match since 2015.

"We'll be better for the experience and I know for many of the girls, we've held onto that feeling of losing something that we've worked hard to hold on to and are so passionate about," Apps said.

"We've had a lot of discussions leading into this year and we're all on the same page.

"Queensland will have a bit more confidence after winning the Shield last year and playing back at the same stadium in front of their home crowd. But we're just as confident and pumped.

"There's nothing quite like Origin. We just can't wait to smash those Queenslanders."

The NSW Women’s Origin team will be coached this year by former player Kylie Hilder with True Blue and former Manly Warringah Sea Eagles coach acting as her assistant.

Last year's match was played under COVID-19 restrictions with the players forced to travel to the Sunshine Coast and isolate for 14 days before the game while only 4,800 fans were allowed at the venue. It is hoped this year's match will be played before a capacity crowd of 12,000.
