Casualty ward: Murray, Brown, Lomax in injury blows

NSWRL

The Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues were left counting the cost of a horror weekend following injuries to Cameron Murray, Nathan Brown and Zac Lomax.

Murray, who suffered a hamstring injury in Game One last year which ruled him out of the rest of the Ampol State of Origin series, left the field during South Sydney Rabbitohs 34-20 over Canberra Raiders last Thursday night with an ankle injury.

Murray has avoided undergoing the knife for a grade two syndesmosis tear but is expected to be sidelined for a month, meaning he will not take the field again before the NSW team is chosen for the opening game of the series in Melbourne on June 9.

Brown, who made his debut for the Blues in Game Two of last year’s series, left the field in distress with a suspected hip pointer injury during Parramatta Eels 32-10 win over Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs last Saturday night.

The Eels are yet to provide an update on his condition but it is expected he will return within a month with some players able to return within a week.

Lomax, who was part of the Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues extended squad last year, is expected to miss up to a month after dislocating his thumb during St George Illawarra Dragons 16-8 loss to Wests Tigers yesterday.

The Dragons centre was in the frame to make his debut for the Blues this season but was meeting a specialist and undergoing scans today to determine the extent of the damage.
