Brad Fittler believes South Sydney can go all the way, but only if they believe it themselves.
Cody Walker has been in sublime form for the Rabbitohs, toying with the Sydney Roosters last week with two tries, three try assists, two line breaks, two line-break assists and seven tackle breaks.
Fittler implied Walker will be in the Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues’ 27-man squad on the Sunday Footy Show last week but says he and his teammates chances go up every week they progress in the finals.
“Last week was one of those moments where everything just worked,” Fittler said to NSWRL.com.au.
“His team is really good form at the moment; everyone is doing their job and just allowing him to play.
“Not only his passing but some of the lines and holes he is hitting, his kicking too, he’s just really in-tune at the moment so I can’t wait to see how he holds up in the semi-finals.”
Walker’s form could not come at a perfect time for the Rabbitohs; he’s hit his straps and played a career-best game the week before the semi-finals.
He’s a confidence-type player with all the confidence in the world behind him heading into their do-or-die clash against the Newcastle Knights this Sunday afternoon.
“It’s what confidence does, in doing that he’s also defending better too,” Fittler continued.
“He’s just his a real purple patch and I think we all agree that now is the time for the Rabbitohs.
“I’m not sure how well Souths have done over the past five or six years since they won, they’ve made a few semi finals but I think they’ve said with themselves that ‘we can mix it with the best here’ and I wonder how much they really believe they can win.
“We’ll see it this week, it’s going to be awesome.”
As for Walker being a part of the 27-man squad?
“Good chance, I don’t like pre-empting anything given what’s happened with the players this year, but the way he has played he’s in the top 27 players of NSW.”
