Forget the golden boot: Tedesco in frame for top award

NSWRL

Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues fullback James Tedesco has capped a stunning season after being named as a finalist for the 2019 ABC Sports Personality of the Year as part of the AIS Sport Performance Awards.

Tedesco joins a star-studded field of nominees including Australian tennis star Ash Barty, cricketers Steve Smith and Elyse Perry, basketballer Patty Mills, surfer Sally Fitzgibbons and snowboarding sensation Scotty James.

The winner will be announced in Sydney on Tuesday 10 December.

The nomination caps a remarkable campaign for Tedesco, who has already won a host of individual awards including the Dally M Player of the Year, Wally Lewis Medal, Brad Fittler Medal, RLPA Player of the Year and Jack Gibson Medal.

That coincides with the dynamic no.1 scoring the series-winning try in Game Three of the 2019 State of Origin series, along with the match-winner in the NRL Grand Final to guide the Sydney Roosters to back-to-back premierships.

The Roosters premiership win over Canberra Raiders has also been nominated for the ABC Sporting Moment of the Year after they became the first NRL club, and the first club in an unified competition since Brisbane Broncos in 1992-93, to win consecutive titles.
