Haas suffers injury in tough end to season

Brisbane Broncos prop Payne Haas has picked up a lower leg injury in his side’s 35-22 victory over the Newcastle Knights to round out their 2021 season on Saturday afternoon.

Early reports from the sideline suggested a suspected syndesmosis injury, which should see him make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2022 pre-season in two months’ time.

The injury occurred just 24 minutes into the contest while retrieving a kick in the corner of the field before Haas clutched at his left ankle.

Haas, who played a key role from the bench and in the starting front row for the Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues in their 2021 Ampol State of Origin series win, was then taken from the field on a medicab in what was a tough way to end the season for the star forward.

The 21-year-old has undoubtedly been the Broncos’ most consistent performer throughout his third full season of NRL, averaging 168 run metres, 74.2 post-contact metres, 33 tackles and three tackle breaks from 20 games played.
