How a toothbrush helped Lewis to premiership glory

True Blue Luke Lewis has provided insight into how he used visualisation methods – including writing goals down on his toothbrush – to help deliver Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks their maiden NRL Premiership in 2016 and himself to a Clive Churchill medal in the process.

Lewis joined the Sharks in 2012 after a distinguished career at Penrith that included a premiership in 2003 and appearances for NSW and Australia.

After a couple of tough seasons which included a battle with thyroid cancer, Lewis found his feet and was confident the Sharks could do something special with a roster that included Wade Graham, Michael Ennis and James Maloney.

“In 2013/14 I had a shoulder reconstruction and then in 2015 things started to fall into place,” Lewis said.

“In 2016 I sat down and set some really good goals and as the season went on, we started winning games so I kept updating my goals. At the end of the year I wanted to win the grand final and win the Clive Churchill Medal.

“I started writing them on the steam in the bathroom with the back of my toothbrush which is a bit weird, but I’m a big believer in everything you write down and you see every day, I do believe you can manifest anything you want.

“2016 was absolutely amazing, I got to do it with my family and my daughter was at the grand final night, so it was the best year of my life by far.”
