‘It would surprise me the most if he doesn’t make the side’

True Blue Steve ‘Blocker’ Roach has backed in-form Penrith Panthers lock Isaah Yeo to grab a spot in Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler’s extended squad after Sunday’s Grand Final against Melbourne Storm.

The 25-year-old has been in outstanding form this season and set up the match-winning try against the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the Preliminary Final last week after busting through the defensive line and finding Dylan Edwards in support.

Yeo hasn’t missed a game for the Panthers all season and Roach believes he deserves a spot in the NSW squad.

“It would surprise me the most if Isaah Yeo doesn't make the side,” Roach said.

“Since they put him at lock, he’s the one that lays all the lines for Cleary and Luai.

“He’s the man that actually takes the last run before something’s happening for the Panthers.

“His footwork and his agility through that middle third of the field last week when he set up that winning try - you don’t see many blokes get in that sort of position and be able to do that.

“He's a real good player so I'd be really surprised if he doesn't make the squad.”

Dubbo-born Yeo will have one last chance to impress Fittler when he takes the field at ANZ Stadium against Souths on Sunday.
