Moses offers himself as possible NSW No.6
Incumbent Westpac NSW Blues halfback Mitch Moses believes a partnership between himself and Penrith Panthers halfback Nathan Cleary could be a way forward in the 2024 Ampol State of Origin series.
After Cleary was ruled out for the 2023 series due to a hamstring injury, Moses was brought in to wear the No.7 for the final two games of the series.
Despite being western Sydney rivals during the NRL season, the Parramatta playmaker says he would love an opportunity to play alongside Cleary – even if it does mean moving positions.
“He’s a great player and what he did in the Grand Final was unbelievable,” Moses said.
“To play alongside him would be unbelievable as well.
“I’ve played six before - any time you can play with a player like Cleary, it would be unbelievable.”
Moses is no stranger to the No.6 jersey having played five-eighth during his time at the Wests Tigers between 2014-2017.
The Eels half made his Origin debut at No.7 alongside Jack Wighton in Game Three 2021. He has played three games for the Blues.
With Michael Maguire taking the reins of the NSW side this year, Moses has backed the new head coach to take the Blues to a series win – even if he is not selected.
“I think what Madge is trying to do is outstanding,” Moses said.
“He’s come in and I think whoever puts the jersey on, I’ll be supporting.
“If I’m there, I’m there. If I’m not, I’m not.”
The 2024 Ampol State of Origin kicks off at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on Wednesday 5 June.
