Adam Reynolds has been named captain of the South Sydney Rabbitohs for the 2020 NRL season.

Reynolds – a Rabbitohs local junior - steered the club to their historic 2014 Premiership from halfback and has played 183 games for the club.

He has been a part of the furniture at Redfern since making his debut in 2012, playing 21+ games in six of his eight seasons with the No.7 on his back as well as being the club’s full-time goal kicker.

“As a kid you always dream of it, whether or not I believed it would happen is a different story,” Reynolds said.

“It’s a great privilege to lead out these boys we’ve got a fantastic playing group here. We’ve got Cody Walker and Damien Cook alongside me who are going to play a major part in leading this team forward hopefully to greater lengths

“Growing up and seeing the history of the club you’ve just got to walk down the hallway downstairs there’s a lot of names that mean a lot to this area, this community, this team and this town.

“To follow in their footsteps means a lot.”

Wayne Bennett conceded that the role was down to Reynolds, Cook and Walker and would have been happy to appoint any of those options as captain.

While not being a fan of co-captains, the pair who missed out will play an integral leadership role alongside Reynolds in 2020.

Reynolds broke the news to his other team, his four kids, along with his wife yesterday.

“I gave them the news yesterday and there was a cheer in the car, but they’re probably a bit [happier] to have the day off school,” Reynolds said with a grin.
