Staggs a chance of early comeback from injury

Star Brisbane centre Kotoni Staggs is ahead of schedule in his comeback from a knee injury and could return for the Broncos for Magic Round in Round 10.

Staggs has been sidelined since September last year after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the Broncos’ 32-16 loss to North Queensland Cowboys in the final round of the regular season.

He was not scheduled to return until Round 12 – the final round before Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler selects his team for Game One of the Ampol State of Origin series – but hit full speed at training today and moved freely with some agility work.

Staggs, who is one of the most damaging centres in the game, was named in the Emerging Blues in 2019 and was in the mix to make his debut last season until he injured his knee.

He will be a welcome return for the Broncos after finishing as the club’s top try-scorer last season with 14.
