The Sydney Roosters today announced True Blues Connor Watson and Spencer Leniu have extended their time with the Bondi-based club until the end of the 2027 season.

Both Watson and Leniu made their debuts for the Westpac NSW Blues during the 2024 series, and each played a vital role in the 2-1 win with the historic 14-4 result in Brisbane – only the third time NSW has won a decider at Suncorp Stadium.

Since making his debut for the Roosters back in 2016, Connor Watson has played a total of 141 NRL games for both the Roosters and the Newcastle Knights.

The 28-year-old has had an impressive 2024 season, covering many positions for the Tri-Colours including five-eighth, lock and hooker.

Watson expressed his pride at extending his time with the club since returning to them in 2022 from the Knights.

“I’m happy and proud to extend my future with the Roosters. This club means a lot to me, and so do they people in it,” Watson told roosters.com.au.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to keep working with such a talented group of players and staff and I’m excited to continue to bring my best every day.”

Joining the club in 2024, Leniu has made a big impact on the field for the Roosters bringing a lot of experience with him from his time at the Penrith Panthers.

The three-time premiership winner has made 94 NRL appearances since making his debut for the Panthers back in 2019.

Making 11 appearances this season, the 23-year-old has made 36 tackle breaks, 222 tackles as well as hitting over 1,000 total running metres for the season.

“I’m grateful to be part of such a prestigious club like the Roosters, and I’m so proud to continue my time here. It’s felt like home since day one,” Leniu told roosters.com.au.

“I’m excited about what the future holds, and I’m committed to working hard with (coach) Trent (Robinson) and my teammates every single day, to keep doing my job for the team.”

In other signing news, the South Sydney Rabbitohs yesterday announced Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks young gun Max McCarthy will join the club next year on a development contract – moving into the club’s top 30 in 2026.

McCarthy was UNE S G Ball Cup Players Player of the Year for the Sharks in 2024.
