Why King Gutho reminds Hindy of JT

True Blues Nathan Hindmarsh believes True Blue and in-form Parramatta captain Clint Gutherson shares the same never-say-die attitude of former champion halfback Johnathan Thurston.

Hindmarsh made the comparison on Behind Blue Eyes for nswrl.com.au with Gutherson’s form in 2021 a major reason for the Eels sitting in second position on the ladder.

The Parramatta fullback, who made his debut for the Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues last year, has scored seven tries, made five line breaks, had seven try assists and nine line break assists.

“He’s very similar to Jonathan Thurston – no matter what the score is, doesn’t matter what position they are on the field, he gives 100 per cent all the time,” Hindmarsh said.

“You don’t have to worry about ‘Is he going to turn up today?’ With Gutho you know what you’re going to get and that is always 100 per cent.”

Hindmarsh knows Gutherson – and the Eels – are benefitting from his time with the Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues.

“It just gives you confidence,” he said.

“You’re playing at that elite level and it also lifts you another level, it really does.

“It also gives you a few new ideas. Sometimes you get caught in the same ideas, same sort of routines, same structures.

“You go away to these representative camps and come back fresh, with fresh ideas, and that extra level of confidence. Players around you feel that.”
